How to Clean a Fish Tank Step by Step

Step 1: Clean the Glass First

Before doing anything else, scrape algae off the inside glass using your algae scraper or magnetic cleaner. Work from top to bottom so that any dislodged algae falls to the substrate where it can be vacuumed up. Don't use soap or household cleaners — they're toxic to fish.
