How to Soundproof Windows Without Replacing Them

New windows are expensive and disruptive to install. The good news: you can achieve significant soundproofing without replacing your windows at all. Here's every non-replacement method, from free to professional-grade.
Understanding Window Sound Transmission
Sound enters through windows via two pathways: air gaps (the biggest problem) and vibration through the glass itself. Non-replacement methods address both. Sealing gaps is free and gives the biggest improvement. Adding mass and air gaps comes next.
Method 1: Seal All Gaps (Free — Do This First)
Even a 1% gap in a window can transmit 50% of outside noise. Sealing gaps is the single most impactful soundproofing action you can take.
