How to Clean Windows Without Streaks

Streaky windows are more frustrating than dirty ones — you did the work but the result looks worse. Streaks are caused by a few specific mistakes that are easy to avoid once you know them. Here's how to get perfectly clear, streak-free windows every time.

Step 1: Choose the Right Conditions

Clean on a cloudy day or in the shade. Never clean in direct sunlight — the solution dries too fast and leaves streaks. Early morning or late afternoon is ideal.

Step 2: Use Minimal Soap

Use just 2 to 3 drops of dish soap per bucket of water. More soap means more residue means more streaks. Alternatively, use a 50/50 white vinegar and water solution — vinegar leaves no residue.

Step 3: Wet the Glass Thoroughly

Wet the entire glass surface with the microfiber scrubber. Scrub to loosen all dirt. The glass should be uniformly wet before you squeegee.

Step 4: Squeegee in Overlapping Strokes

Start at the top corner. Pull the squeegee across in a straight horizontal stroke. Wipe the blade with a clean dry cloth after every stroke. Overlap each stroke by about 1 inch. Work from top to bottom.

Step 5: Wipe the Edges Immediately

Use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe the edges of the glass and the frame immediately after squeegeeing. Water at the edges runs back onto the clean glass and causes streaks.

Step 6: Inspect in Raking Light
