How to Clean Window Frames

Cleaning Painted Wood Frames

1. Dust with a dry cloth first to remove loose debris
2. Mix a few drops of dish soap in warm water
3. Wipe the frame with a damp microfiber cloth — don't soak the wood
4. Use a toothbrush for corners and the joint between the frame and the wall
5. Rinse with a clean damp cloth
6. Dry immediately and thoroughly — standing water damages paint and causes wood to swell

Cleaning Vinyl Frames

1. Spray with all-purpose cleaner or dish soap solution
2. Wipe with a microfiber cloth
3. For scuffs and marks, use a magic eraser — it removes most stains from vinyl without scratching
4. For yellowed vinyl, apply a paste of baking soda and water, let sit 5 minutes, then scrub and rinse
5. Dry with a clean cloth

Cleaning Aluminum Frames

1. Wipe with dish soap and warm water
2. For oxidation (white chalky deposits), scrub with a paste of cream of tartar and water
3. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately — water left on aluminum causes further oxidation

Removing Mold from Window Frames
