How to Clean Hardwood Floor Correctly

The Golden Rule: Less Water Is Always Better

Water is hardwood's biggest enemy. Excess moisture causes warping, cupping, staining, and finish damage. Every cleaning method below is designed to clean effectively while keeping moisture to an absolute minimum.

What NOT to Use on Hardwood Floors

• Steam mops — force moisture directly into the wood and seams; voids most floor warranties
• Wet mops or soaking-wet cloths — too much water penetrates the finish and wood
• Vinegar or acidic cleaners — dull and degrade polyurethane finish over time
• Ammonia-based cleaners — strip finish and discolor wood
• Abrasive scrubbers — scratch the finish
• Oil soaps on polyurethane-finished floors — leave residue that prevents future refinishing

Daily Cleaning: Dry Dust Mopping

Daily or every-other-day dry dusting removes grit and debris before it can scratch the finish. Use an 18" Professional Microfiber Mop in dry mode — microfiber attracts and traps dust, pet hair, and fine particles without scratching. Always mop in the direction of the wood grain.

Weekly Cleaning: Damp Mopping

Once a week, damp mop with a hardwood-safe cleaner:

Dealing with Spills
