Why a Weekly Bathroom Cleaning Routine Works Better Than Occasional Deep Cleans
Cleaning the bathroom once a month and letting it get truly dirty in between is harder, less pleasant, and less hygienic than a consistent weekly routine. A 30–45 minute weekly clean keeps every surface under control, prevents mold and soap scum from establishing, and means you never face an overwhelming deep-clean situation. Here's a complete, efficient weekly routine.
Supplies to Have Ready
- Microfiber cloths (at least 4)
- All-purpose cleaner
- Disinfecting wipes
- Glass cleaner
- Toilet brush and toilet bowl cleaner
- Rubber gloves
- Trash bag
The Weekly Bathroom Cleaning Routine
Step 1: Apply Dwell-Time Products First (Minutes 0–3)
Start by applying products that need time to work while you clean other areas:
- Apply toilet bowl cleaner inside the bowl.
- Spray soap scum remover on shower walls and tub if needed.
- Spray all-purpose cleaner on the sink and counter.
Step 2: Mirror and Light Fixtures (Minutes 3–8)
Spray HOPE'S Perfect Glass Cleaner onto a microfiber cloth and wipe the mirror in a Z-pattern. Dust light fixtures with a dry microfiber cloth.
Step 3: Sink and Counter (Minutes 8–15)
Wipe the sink, faucet, and counter with a damp microfiber cloth — the cleaner you applied in Step 1 has been dwelling. Scrub the drain with a brush. Buff the faucet dry to prevent water spots. Wipe the soap dispenser, toothbrush holder, and other counter accessories.
Step 4: Toilet (Minutes 15–22)
Scrub the toilet bowl with a brush and flush. Wipe the entire exterior — handle, tank, lid (top and underside), seat (top and underside), and base — with disinfecting wipes. Don't forget behind the toilet.
Step 5: Shower and Tub (Minutes 22–32)
Wipe shower walls and tub with a microfiber cloth — the soap scum remover has been working. Rinse thoroughly. Wipe shower fixtures and handles dry.
Step 6: High-Touch Surfaces (Minutes 32–36)
Use disinfecting wipes on: door handle (both sides), light switch, towel bar, toilet paper holder, and cabinet handles.
Step 7: Floor (Minutes 36–45)
Sweep or vacuum the floor. Mop or wipe with a damp microfiber cloth and all-purpose cleaner. Replace the trash bag and bath mat.
Monthly Add-Ons to the Weekly Routine
Once a month, add these tasks to your weekly routine:
- Scrub grout lines with grout cleaner and a grout brush.
- Clean the exhaust fan cover.
- Wipe cabinet interiors.
- Deep clean toothbrush holder and rinse cup.
