How to Clean a Hydro Flask
Share
Why Hydro Flasks Need Regular Cleaning
Hydro Flasks are built to last — but their vacuum-insulated stainless steel interior still accumulates coffee and tea stains, biofilm, and odors over time. The narrow opening and powder-coated exterior require specific care to keep the bottle performing and looking its best.
What You'll Need
- Dawn Platinum Dish Soap
- Bottle brush with long handle
- Cup lid gap cleaning brush set
- Bottle Bright cleaning tablets
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
Daily Cleaning After Every Use
- Disassemble the lid completely — remove the gasket and any straw
- Rinse the bottle with warm water immediately after use
- Add a drop of dish soap and warm water, scrub inside with a long bottle brush
- Use a lid gap brush to clean the lid threads, gasket groove, and straw
- Rinse all parts thoroughly and air dry with the lid off
Weekly Deep Clean: Bottle Bright Method
- Fill the Hydro Flask with warm water
- Drop in one Bottle Bright tablet
- Let fizz and soak for 30 minutes
- Shake gently, rinse thoroughly, and air dry
- Soak lid parts in a separate bowl with another tablet
Bottle Bright is Hydro Flask's own recommended cleaning method and is safe for all stainless steel and powder-coated surfaces.
Removing Coffee and Tea Stains
Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and warm water to the flask. Scrub with a bottle brush and let soak 30 minutes before rinsing. For stubborn stains, a Bottle Bright tablet soak is more effective.
Cleaning the Powder-Coated Exterior
- Wipe the outside with a damp cloth and a drop of dish soap
- Never submerge the exterior in water for extended periods — it can affect the powder coat
- Avoid abrasive scrubbers on the exterior — they scratch the coating
What to Avoid with Hydro Flask
- Dishwasher: High heat damages the vacuum insulation and powder coat
- Bleach or chlorine: Damages stainless steel and leaves harmful residue
- Freezing: Can damage the vacuum seal
- Abrasive scrubbers: Scratch the interior and exterior
Final Thoughts
A long bottle brush for daily cleaning and a weekly Bottle Bright soak are the official Hydro Flask-recommended cleaning routine. Always store with the lid off and dry completely to prevent mold and odors.
