How to Use Air Conditioner With Google Home
Share
Connecting your air conditioner to Google Home lets you control it with voice commands through a Google Nest speaker or the Google Home app on your phone. Here is how to set it up and get the most out of it.
Two Ways to Connect Your AC to Google Home
- Smart AC with brand app: Link via the brand’s Google Home integration for full voice control including mode and temperature.
- Any AC with a smart plug: Link via the smart plug’s Google Home integration for on/off voice control and scheduling.
Method 1: Connect a Smart AC to Google Home
- Make sure your AC is connected to your home WiFi via its brand app (LG ThinQ, Daikin, Mitsubishi MELCloud, Midea Air, Panasonic Comfort Cloud, etc.).
- Open the Google Home app on your phone.
- Tap the + icon, then Set up device, then Works with Google.
- Search for your AC brand (e.g., “LG ThinQ”, “Daikin”, “Midea”) and tap it.
- Log in with your brand app account to link the accounts.
- Google Home will discover your AC. Assign it to a room (e.g., “Living Room”, “Bedroom”).
- You can now control it by voice or through the Google Home app.
Method 2: Connect Any AC to Google Home via Smart Plug
- Set up your smart plug and connect it to your 2.4GHz WiFi using its app.
- In the Google Home app, tap + > Set up device > Works with Google.
- Search for your smart plug brand (e.g., “GHome”, “Kasa”, “Tapo”) and link your account.
- The smart plug appears as a device in Google Home. Name it “AC” or “Living Room AC”.
- Say “Hey Google, turn on the AC” to control it.

Useful Google Home Voice Commands for AC
- “Hey Google, turn on the AC”
- “Hey Google, turn off the AC”
- “Hey Google, set the AC to 24 degrees” (smart AC only)
- “Hey Google, set the AC to cool mode” (smart AC only)
- “Hey Google, what is the AC set to?” (smart AC only)
- “Hey Google, turn off the bedroom AC in 2 hours”
Using AC in Google Home Automations
Google Home Automations (formerly Routines) let you trigger your AC as part of a sequence. Examples:
- Good morning: “Hey Google, good morning” → turns on the AC, reads the weather forecast.
- Leaving home: “Hey Google, I’m leaving” → turns off the AC and lights.
- Time-based: AC turns on automatically at 5:30 PM on weekdays.
- Sunrise/sunset trigger: AC turns on when outdoor temperature rises above a threshold (requires compatible smart thermostat integration).
Set up automations in the Google Home app under Automations.
Troubleshooting Google Home AC Control
- Device not found: In the Google Home app, go to your device and tap “Sync devices” or unlink and relink the brand skill.
- Voice command not recognized: Make sure the device name in Google Home is simple and matches what you say — rename it to “AC” if needed.
- Commands work in app but not by voice: Check that your Google Nest speaker is on the same Google account as the Google Home app.
- Smart plug not responding: Check the plug’s WiFi connection in its own app first.
Final Thoughts
Connecting your AC to Google Home takes about 10 minutes and makes climate control hands-free. Smart AC units get full voice control over mode and temperature. Any AC gets convenient on/off voice control and scheduling via a smart plug. Either way, it is a worthwhile upgrade for everyday comfort.
